CHEESE PRODUCTS TRADITION SINCE 1948
For many years now, the Kefalonians stand out in anything they do, because they do it right.
"The Association of Cheesemakers and Cheese Workers, which is based in Potamianata, and in the year 12-12-1952 recognizes as its member Spyrangelos Tzortzatos, son of Ioannis, resident of Deilinata and born in 1911, with the specialty of Cheesemaker".
By demonstrating this identity, his grandson Spyrangelos begins his narration, because he also considers it a deed of commencement of work of the cheese factory. His father along with his brother, i.e. Vasilis and Gerasimos, took over in 1975 the business and in 1982 they established a new cheese factory of 2,000 square meters.
In 1976, the collaboration of the Tzortzatos Cheese Factory with Sklavenitis had already begun, and this year (2016) is their 40th anniversary.
Today the cheese factory of Tzortzatos is considered the biggest in Kefalonia.
Its production is over six hundred tons of cheese (white barrel cheese, Kefalotyri, Myzithra, Graviera, Pretza) from local sheep and goat milk and seven hundred tons of dairy (yogurts, creams, rice pudding, desserts, etc.) from cow milk coming from the Peloponnese.
This is how Spyrangelos Tzortzatos, known for the special flavors of his cheese products, entered the market of cow milk.
In his shop, located on Sitemporon Street, but also in other supermarkets of Kefalonia, there is fresh milk, skimmed milk, milk in a five-liter package, as well as chocolate milk.
As Spyrangelos informed us, consumers were very enthused with the project.
During our visit to the Tzortzatos Cheese Factory, we admired the high technology, the cleanliness of the premises and especially the warm smiles of the employees, led by the brothers Spyrangelos, Giannis and Fotis, but their three cousins Spyrangelos, Vangelis and Stamo (there is also a girl in the family), who are all hard workers. We would like to congratulate them for being a shining example of how family units can be viable and be the backbone of the Greek economy.
